Dr Liang presents UFE audit data to Gynaecologists’ meeting

First Australian case series of uterine fibroid embolisation will be presented by Dr Eisen Liang at the forthcoming Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2011 Annual Scientific Meeting being held from 27 – 30 November 2011 at the Melbourne Convention Centre ( ). The title of the presentation is Clinical Audit: Efficacy of Uterine Artery Embolisation for Treatment of Symptomatic Fibroids and Adenomyosis – An Interim Report on an Australian Experience. The clinical audit conducted by Dr Liang confirmed the safety and effectiveness of uterine artery embolisation in treating fibroid and adenomyosis related symptoms. The overall success rate was 93%, with 73% of women “very happy” with the outcome and another 20% of women “happy” with the outcome. Heavy periods were controlled in 96% of patients. Significant improvement in bladder symptoms and period pain were also noted. Very high success was also found in women with adenomyosis. (To see the poster of the presentation please click here). Dr Eisen Liang is an interventional radiologist with special interest in gynaecological intervention such as Uterine Fibroid Embolisation (UFE), adenomyosis embolisation and ovarian vein embolisation for pelvic congestion syndrome. He performed his first UFE in 1998 and has been performing UFE at Sydney Adventist Hospital since 2007.
